Classical guitarist Dr. Car– los Castilla will be presented in concert Wednesday, Oct. 10, at East Central Community College in Decatur. Castilla's performance will begin at 1 p.m. in the Vickers Fine Arts Center. There is no charge for admission and the public is invited. Castilla, who teaches classi– cal guitar at William Carey University in Hattiesburg, has performed as a solo artist with different orchestras and cham– ber ensembles as well as solo recitals in Colombia, Peru, Costa Rica, Cuba, Venezuela and the United States ofAmer- ica. He is also an artist ofBanco de lo Republica, a noted music sponsor in Columbia. He has a recording of Span– ish and Latin American music, "Tradicion Hispana," and has participated in several 20th Century music recordings. Dr. Castilla has performed in seminars and master classes for guitar icons such as Manuel Barrueco, Alirio Diaz, Eduardo Fernandez, Thomas Patterson, Costa Cotsiolis, Joaquin Clerch and Leo Brouwer. His articles about new approaches to the guitar tech- nique were published in Guitar Sessions, a magazine edited by ----------------------
Castilla holds a bachelor's degree in music from Los Andes University in Bogota, Columbia, where he studied with Maestro Jaime Aria s Obregon. He did advanced studies in guitar performance in Havana, Cuba at Instituto Superior de Arte with Maestro Jesus Orte– ga. He also holds a master's degree in guitar performance and currently is doing doctoral studies at the University of Southern Mississippi under
