ECCC Lady Diamond SPECIAL TO THE TIMES DECATUR-East Central - another close win (1-0) over Northeast Saturday.

ECCC hurler Marley Smith of Union suffered her only loss of the year in the semi-final defeat to Northeast, allowing three runs on four hits during two and a third innings of work. Smith fin– ished with a staggering 16-1 mark for the Lady Diamond Warriors. Lindsey Walker, also of Union, finished the contest on the mound, allowing five runs on six hits. Dominique Mapp of Newton County led EC at the plate with a double and single. Kristin Chaney, Jennifer Smith and Obreisba Davis, all products of Newton County High School, had two singles each;and AbbyMiller of Madison Central had a single. Community College's fast-pitch softball team finished third in the MACJC/ Region 23 Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament held May 6- 8 on the Decatur campus. The ECCC women, who com– pleted season action with a 34-5 record under second-year head coach Scott Hill, fell 8-1 to the Lady Tigers in semi-final action Sunday afternoon to close out competition in the double-elimi– nation tournament. The Lady Warriors posted wins over Copiab-Lincoln (3-1) on Friday and slipped past Northwest (:M) and Gulf Coast 5- 4 during Saturday contests. East Central lost its fir st matcbup with Northeast by a 5-0 margin Friday night.
