smith, Chaney lead Lady Warriors Sophomore pitcher Marley Smith ?f ~nion and sophomore shortstop/catcher Knstln Chaney of Newton County were the top per– formers for the East Central Community Col– lege Lady Warriors softball team through 20 games. . . Smith was 10-0 1n the circle w1th one save. She had a 0.77 ERA in 64 innings with 49 strikeouts and only nine walks. At the plate. her .472 batting average was seco~d only to Chaney's .480. Chaney was 6-of-6 1n stolen bases. ECCC had a team batting average of .341 a staff ERA of 2 17 and a team fielding per– centage of .951. A sweep of Holmes Community College on last Friday increased ECCC's overall record to 21-3.
