Shelly Ferguson started at second base via the tiebreaker rule and scored on a two-out, two-strike double in the left-field corner by Kristin Chaney. Chaney scored the winning run when Abby Miller's fly ball fell in shallow right field.
MCC had taken a 2-1 lead in the top·of the eighth as Kirby Shelby scored on a sacrifice fly by Stephanie Choo.
MCC went up 1-0 early as Ashley Rowley led off the game with a solo homer to left field. After letting two more runners reach base in the inning, Smith retired the next 17 batters she faced before J.J. Huggins lined a one-out single to center field in the top of the seventh.
Smith allowed three hits while striking out four. Allison McDaniel recorded seven fly ball outs in left field.
Choo (3-8) took the loss, giving up five hits and one walk while striking out five. She didn 't allow a hit until Chaney led off the bottom of the fourth with a single to right field. Chaney scored on a sacrifice fly by Dominique Mapp. •
Chaney went 2-for-4 and scored two runs for the Lady Warriors.
Three different players had one hit each for MCC.
Smith came back to toss a four-hitter in the second game. Erica Hardin provided the winn ing runs with a three-run homer to left field in the bottom of the third. ECCC took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Chaney beat out an infield hit, but injured her ankle on the play. McDaniel came on as a pinch runner and scored on a single by Miller. Shelby (2-3) got out of the inning with the bases loaded. MCC t ied the game in the top of the second as JorD'an Orr led off with a double to left field and scored from third when Jessica Lawrence's fly bal l was dropped in left field. Chaney put the Lady Warriors up 2-1 in the bottom of the second when she reached on a two-out error and scored on another single by Miller.
The Lady Eagles pulled even in the thir-d with Rowley leading off with a single to right field and scoring on a two-out single by Orr.
The Lady Warriors got a three-run homer from Hardin in the bottom of the third and Smith retired the next eight batters she faced. Hardin's blast was preceded by Jennifer Smith reaching on an error and Lauren White getting a single.
