ECCC teams off to rough start in new year • Lady Warriors start new year with win over ltawamba, both teams lose to Co-Lin. Special to The Record South Division competition began on a disappointing note for the East Central Community College women and men's bas– ketball teams who were swept by visiting Copiah-Lincoln Community College Monday night in the Brackeen-Wood Physical Education Building. The Lady Warriors - the defending division, MACJC and Region 23 champions- were outscored 66-61 and the War– riors were edged 76-73. Kristin Chaney; a sophomore product of Newton CountyHigh School, led the 24th-ranked Lady Warriors with 17 points. Also scoring for EC, which fell to 8-4 and 0-1, were Kim Cox of Lake, 13; Tierra Young of South Leake, 11; India Backstrom of Neshoba Central, eight; Shan– non Lloyd of West Lauderdale, six; Sara Judice of Teurlings Catholic High School in Lafayette, La.. four; and LaShaundra Harrison of Union, two. Co-Un (M) 76, ECCC 73 In men's action, sophomore Andrew Lewis' three-point attempt to tie the contest in the game's final seconds· bounced off the rim and the Warrior rally fell short as Co-Lin came away with the narrow victory. Lewis. a former standout at Morton High School, had 18 points to lead the Warriors, who slipped to 3·9 and 0-1. Garrick Nichols also chipped in 11 points while Newton Coun– ty's Ricardo Alcanter ahd nine points. Ledell Eackles of Baton Rouge pumped in 25 points to lead Co-Lin, which improved to 7-5 and 1-0. Co-Lin led 35-25 at halftime. East Central teams travel to Gulf Coast Thursday night and will agam be on the road Mon– day night for a matchup with Jones County. The Jones County
