TheschedlE • East Central competes in the North Central Division with Hinds, Meridian, Holmes and East Mississip– pi. From this week on, dM– sion games will be played on Tuesday and Saturday, though ECCG does not have a division game this week. After the Hinds game, East Central has two non-division games thisweek, hosting Gulf Coast in amakeup game Wednesday, and then visiting Co-Un in a non-divi– sion game on Saturday. The Warriors outhit Northeast 7-4, and did not commit an error in the first contest of Snnday's double– header: Holly fanned fiver Northeast batters. East Central scored two in the second, three in the fifth and one in the sixth. Mario Thomas hit a dou– ble and Townsend belted a homerun. In the second game, East Central belted 14 hits. The Warriors scored four in the first, five in the third and three in the fifth. North– east scored five in the first, two in the third, one in the fourth and two in the fifth. Jonathan Booker was the winning pitcher, evening his record atl-1. Townsend had two homers and a double. Sellers hit a homer and a double; Ben– jamin Bermett hit a double and a single; andCowardand Tally each had two singles.
DECATUR- The East Cen– tral Community College Warriors enter division play this week hoping to continue their recent momentum. The Warriors swept a dou– ble-header from Northeast Community College Sunday, taking the first game 6-0, and the second 12-11. The 8-13 Warriors were to host Hinds Tuesday in a North Central Division contest. "Our defense is getting better," said coach Jake Yarbrough. 'In the first 20 games, we have made 54 errors, and that is too many. But in the last six games, we have done better. "We are counting on our starting pitching to carry us. Our bullpen hasn't proved to be real strong at this point, and we are asking those guys to step upa little more." The team's top starting pitchers are Brent McMil– lian, who has a 3-0 record and an ERA of 2.16; Hunter Holly, 3-1, with an ERA of 2.89; and Jim Tally, whose ERA is4.66. . The top Warrior batters are Dexter Sellers witha bat– ting average of .383; Corey Coward, .464; Michael Dean, .328; and Jacob Townsend, .326. ECCC 6, 12, Northeast 0, 11 Townsend has belted seven home runs so far this season. Against Northeast, he hit three homers and knocked in seven RBis. He went 5-for-8 at the plate.
