tant professor, was pro– moted to associate profes– sor in 1972, and received full professor status in 1981. He is also a former math instructor at Rice Un ivers ity, servi ng in 1966-67. He began his ca– reer as a mathematician fo r Texaco , Inc ., in Bellaire, Texas, in 1961. ln addition to his teaching re– sponsibilities at UGA, Dr. Hollingsworth was in– volved in numerous re– search projects and was respons ible for various ad– ministrative duties. Here– ceived numerous honors during his teaching career. incl udi ng O utsta nding Honors Pro fessor on three occasiOns. and the Josiah .\f e1gs Award. the uni\'ersity's highest teach– ing a \\ard . He al so re– ce i,·ed a Special Sandy Beavers teachi ng award and was later presented a Sandy Beaver Professor– ship. He was also granted subs tantia l funding re– search by the Natio nal Science Foundation and published numerous pa– pers. In addition, he was selected in 1969-70 as a visiting member of the ln– stitute for Advanced Study ;n Princeton, New Jersey. Holl ingswort h. a Conehatta nattve who re– sides in Commerce, Ga ., wiU be honored with other Alumni Association award recipients during Home– coming activities sched– uled Saturday, October 9. Regarding his selection for the prestigious award, Dr. Hollingsworth replied: ''Re– ceiving this award is in– deed a great honor. I am keenly aware of the out– standing people that came through East Central, and to be singled out in this way is humbl ing." Dr. Holl ingsworth retired in 2000 from the University of Georgia, where he was a member ofthe math fac– ulty since 1967 and served as department head from 1992-95 .
