Jones receives Burton Scholarship Marjay Jones of Philadelphia was presented the Myrtle Raye Burton Gerontology Scholarship recently established at East Central Community College in Decatur. Jones, a freshman gerontology major and Meridian High School graduate, received the $1 ,000 award from a contri– bution provided for the 2003-04 school year by the Board of Directors of Heart and Hand, Inc., in Brandon. The scholarship honors Mrs. Burton, a Newton resident, for her 28 years of ser– vice and dedication to the elder– ly citizens of east central Missis– sippi and the entire state during her employment as aging direc– tor with the East Central Plan– mng and Development Distnct. Mrs. Burton, who is currently rece ving treatment for cancer, is also a former member of the ECCC Board of Trustees. (EC Photo)
