Latest Lady Warrior Signees Newton County High School standout fast- pitch softball players Kristin Chaney, seated at left, and Shelly Ferguson, seated at right, have signed national letters of intent to continue their athletic careers at East Central Community College. Chaney, a catcher/shortstop and five-year letter-winner, was a Class 3A all-state performer for four years on the Lady Cougar fast-pitch and slow-pitch teams. She posted a .505 batting average this past fast-pitch season and helped lead the Lady Cougars to a 30-4 record and their third state championship in the past four years. She received the Hitting Award for the 2003 campaign and was selected to partici– pate in the MAC All-Star Games in late June at Decatur. Ferguson, an outfielder who also lettered five years, was named to the 2003 Class 3A all-state team. She was the recipient of the Lady Cougars' Glove Award in slow-pitch competition .
