EC football players receive honors Numerous members of Hope, linebacker
Josh Viverette, and defensive line– man Jed Wright. Eight Warriors will repre– sent EC in the annual MACJC All-Star Game, Saturday a t 1 p .m. at Northeast Mississippi Com– munity College in Boone– ville. All-Stars are offensive linemen DeMarcus Granger, Marcel Binion, and Tyrone Barrett; running back Ramon Williams, defensive linemen Ken Triplett and Arrion Triplett; linebacker Travares Osley, and defensive back Pete McBride. Warriors head coach Terry Underwood and his staffwere selected to coach the South squad. Assistant coaches are Tlill Coats, Steve Cheatham, Fred Lyons, Tommy Clopton and DeMarcus Holmes. EC, which finished 3-6 overall and placed third in the South with a 3-3 mark, had the state's second-best rushing offense with a 194.8- yard average per contest. State champion Holmes won the rushing title, averaging 220.4 yards. The Warriors were fourth in total offense.
averaged 26.5 yards per kick– off return. Warriors named second team All-State include run– ning back Titus Ryan, offen– sive guard Marcel Binion, and linebacker Stacey Lewis. Ryan, who finished sec– ond to Williams in rushing, had 570 yards on 102 carries and scored six touchdowns, an 81.4-yard average per contest in the seven games he appeared as running back. Ryan began the season at wide receiver, but was moved to running back when Williams was injured. Lewis placed fourth in individual tackles, with 69 solo stops and 28 assists. Team members named honorable mention All-State were quarterback Kevin Stephens, wide receivers Marcus Hibbler, Reggie Rice, and Ronald Smith; fullback Wesley Wright, offensive line– man John Williams, center LeAndrew McDonald, offen– sive tackle Tyrone Barrett, cornerback Jarvis Lymon, free safety Adrian Eiland, comer– back Justin Smith of Newton Count~ strong safety John
the East Central Community College football team were named to the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges All-State teams following the 2002 campaign. Those selected first team AU-State inclu de running back Ramon Williams, offen– sive guard DeMarcus Granger, defensive lineman Ken Triplett, linebf!cker Travares Osley, and defen– sive back Pete McBride. Granger was also selected most valuable offensive line– man in the South Division. Williams was rated the state's top rusher although he appeared in only five games due to injury. He gained 528 yards on 90 car– ries - an average of 105.6 yards per contest - and scored fi ve touchdowns. Osley, the sta te's top tack– ler, had 106 solo stops and 27 assists. Triplett had 57 tack– les, 18 assists, and six quar– terback sacks. He also recov– ered a fumble. McBride had 42 solo stops, 11 assists, and s1x interception.;. He also
