EC women shock .Northeast in Region 23 opener Wendy Mapp made a pair of free throws wi th 0.8 seconds remaining to send the Lady Warriors of East Central Community College past top– seeded Northeast Mississ1ppi 88-86 in first-round action of the Region 23 Basketball Tourna– ment at Mississippi College Monday night. Mapp, a gradu<1te of Newton County High School, led 19-8 EC with 28 points. Nicole Barrett added 15, Denise Chapman had 11, Sonya Pinkston had eight, and Sharae Brown scored seven. Natalie Smith led state cham– pion Northeast, 23-3, with 17. EC will meet 19-8 Northwest Wednesday at 1 p.m. The fina ls ~ rP et for Wednesday at noon
