EC Warriors claim wins in hoop action

Decatur- it was a d ean sweep for East Central Community College bas– ketball squads which defeated Miss. Delta and East Miss. teams d uring action last week. After posting the non division victories, the Warriors and Lady Warriors improved to 4-1 on the young season. In games played at Miss. Delta Thursday night, Marty Cooper's War– riors ro lled to a 78-51 win while the Sammy Pace led Lady Warriors held on for a 70-69decision. Darr:ck Massey of Fore st led ECCC with 14 points against the home-standing Trojans. Other scorers were Maurice Bowie o f Morton-13; Maurice Jones, of Forest-nin~; Gary Butler of Sebastopol-seven; Toronto Parker of Forest and Robert Earl Shep– ard ofMorton- two each. ECCC led 41-20 at half-time. In women's action, Nicole Barrett of Morton paced the Lady Warriors with 18-points. Danielle Johnson of Fore)t added a pair of points to the team effort. Delta led 36-29 at half-time.

In action-Monday November 18, at the Bracken-Wood Physical Education Building, Jones pumped in 16-points to lead East central to a 78-70 victory over the Lions. Other scorers were Montgom~ry-13; Bowie-11; Jowers-10; Massey- eight; Johnson-six; Smith-five and Shepard-1. The score was tied 32- 32 at half-time. Houston led the ECCC women with 19-points in the 70-66 decision over the Lady Lions. Other pointrnak– e rs were Barrett-18; Hall-16; McDaniel- seven; McGilore-sixi John– son-4, and Brantley, Floyd and Thompson with two each. The Lady Warriors Jed 35-31 at intermission. Games scheduled over the next few weeks include competition against Mississippi College junior var– sity team ( men only) at 6 p.m., Tues– day November 26 in Clinton; home gameS with pearl River on Tuesday, December 3; and road trips to South– west on Thursday, December 5, and Bishop State, AJ. ( December 13-14) for a two-day tournament.
