Skill/Tech News MAACE convenes in Biloxi
Gene Davis is installed as new president of the state's association for adult basic education. The Mississippi Association of Aduh and Community Education held its 1996 conference June 12-14 at the Broadwater East Hotel in Biloxi. Co-hosts were .\fis– sissippi Gulf Coast Community College and Project LEAP. The three-day confer– ence was highlighted by 39 concurrent ses– sions, the MAACE awards, motivational speaker Dr. Clifford Lee, and the largest attendance ever - over 600 adult educauon professionals and service agencies. MAACE's annual professional recog– nition was conducted at the opening ses– sion. 1996 recipients were: Linda Lipe of Jtawamba Community College, North Mississippi Teacher of the Year; Dr. James Barrett ofMississippi Gulf Coast Commu– nity College, South Mississippi Teacher of the Year; Dr. Merre Donnan of LEAP, Adult Eduction Supervisor ofthe Year; and Ricky Berry of the Dept. of Human Ser– vices, Friend ofAdult Education. Elected as 1996-97 MAACE officers were: Gene Davis, President; William Ward, President-Elect; and Jan West, Sec– retary!freasurer. Ellie Graham \\ill serve the Board as Past-President. Marjorie Taylor and Willie Williams were installed as new MAACE Directors,

"Our office is busy. planning a New Teachers Meeting and will announce the date and location very soon," said Eloise Johnson Richardson, state ABE director. "We are reviewing conference evaluations to plan teacher training for this program year and welcome your input. We look for– ward to working with you again this year as we strive to meet the needs of our tar– geted population," she added.
