ECCC board member appointe Bill Thames, Newton, has been appointed to the East Cen– tral Community College Board of Trustees. His appomtment fills the vacancy left by the recent death of board member Glendon Caraway. Scouts of America. Although retired , Thames maintains a busy schedule with his involvement in community activities. He was a ppointed to the board by Dist. 4 Supervisor L.M. Bonds. Thames is a former mail car– rier and his family previously owned and operated The Brass Knob, a clothing store in New– ton. Thames is also a former district executive with the Boy

Thames is a graduate o f Decatur High School and East Central Junior College, and has attended the Professional Scout– ing School in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He is married to the former Bet Bounds of Newton and they have three grown children: Jack, who resides in Newton, an attorney who serves as an assistant district attorney; Kirk, also of Newton, who owns the Thames Company, and indust– rial supply business; and Debbie Pruitt of Columou s, a teacher. Mr. and Mrs. Thames have eight grandchildren. Bill Thames' father, Jim Thames, was a member of the ECCC Board of Trustees and was one of the key individuals who led efforts to have East Central located in Decatur .
