East Central women lose in national tourney
FromSpecllll Report. Powerful Central Arizona de– feated East Central 78-71 Tues– day in the opening round of the women's national junior college basketball tournament at Tyler, Texas. The Vaqueras, who led 41-37 at halftime, improved to 30-2. Rena Reed lead East Central, 25-7, with 17 points. Evelyn Nelson added 16 and Monica Davis 12. The Lady Warriors play t he West Arkansas-Casper (Wy.) loser Thursday at noon in the consolation bracket. The best the Lady Warriors can do in con– solation play is seventhplace.
JUNIOR COLLEGES Men'a tournament: Roy Hair– ston scored 31 poin~ as Hutchin– son (Kan.) beat Region 23 champi– onBossierParish (La.) 99-83 in the opening game of the 47th annual men's national junior college tour– nament at Hutchinson. In other first-round games, ChattahoocheeValley (Ala) beat Hiwassee (Tenn.) 109-87, and Connors State (Okla.) beat A't· lanta Metro 79-68. Hutchinson, 32-4, trailed 41- 39 at halftime. BossierParish fell to 28-5.
