New course offerings to ECCC curriculum

Two courses have been added to the academic/technical curric– ulum at East Central Commu– nity ColJege in Decatur and will be offer ed beginning with the 1995 s pring term, announced Dr. Phil Sutphin , Dean of In– struction. New course offerings include world geography a n d work– based learning. Dr. Sut phin said geography has been added to the curricu– lum to assist students majoring in elementa ry education who need the cours e when trans– fer ring t o a four-year college. The course involves a regional survey of t he basic geographic features and major new devel– opment s of the natures of the world.Worked-based learning is designed for students enrolled in t echno logy program and employed in parallel workplace

environments for a minimum of 15 hours per week. Course content is based upon the standardized technology course curriculum, specific workplace need, and specific objectives addressing competent workplace performance. In another matter involving instruction, electronic spread– sheet replaces business commu– nications in the computer operations curriculum. Reason for the change is to meet the need expressed by bus– iness and industry for students graduating in the computer operations cutriculum to have experience in electronic spread- sheet software. .
