Weir selectedECCC Basic Skills Specialist

Mrs. Stacie Therrell Weir of Phi– ladelphia has been named Basic Skills Specialist at East Central Community College in Decatur, announced Dr. Eddie M. Smith, col– lege president. In this new position, Mrs. Weir is responsible for establishing Adult Basic Education (ABE) and General Education Development (GED) programs at businesses and indus– tries located in the ECCC five– county district Her duties involve assessing the needs for ABE/GED programs; locating classrooms, instructors and materials; and pro– viding other activities to support effective operation of basic skills programs. Mrs. Weir, who began her duries in November, previously taught math and chorus at Philadelphia High School. She is also a fonner Chapter 1 teacher at Philadelphia Elementary School. In addition, she served as junior high science and reading instructor for the Choctaw Tribal School System and was spe– cial education teacher at Choctaw Central High School. Her community activiteis include membership in several organiza– tions, including Kappa Kappa Iota, Lydian Music Club, Philadelphia Home Arts Cl ub and the Philadelphia/Neshoba County Arts Council. She attends First Baptist Church in Philadelphia. In addition, Mrs. Werr and her husband, William G. Weir, operate Weirhousc Caterers ofPhiladelphia. A graduate of Philadelphia High

Stacie Therrell Weir School, Mrs. Weir holds an associate of arts degree from East Central Community College; a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Delta State University; and a mas– ter's degree in elementary education from Mississippi State University. She has completed additional coursework toward a specialist degreeatMSU. While a student at EC, the fonner Miss Neshoba County was selected a beauty, class favorite, class officer and homecoming maid. She was a member of the Collegians, Centralet– tes, Warrior Corps, checrleading squad, President's Council andFash– ion Squad. She and her husband have a two– year-old daughter, Alex.andra.
