Vicker" hac; served as President of the Mic:.c;issippi Folklore Society, has written numerous articles on the subject of Folklore, and in 1980 was presented an engraved award of merit by the Mississippi Histori– cal Society for his contributions to the promotion and study of Folklore in the state of Mississippi. Mississippi Folklore has been

the subject of lectures given by Vickers at the University of South– ern Mississippi, The Southeastern Conference on English 1n the Two– Year College, The Mississtppi Council of Teachers of English, and a number of Mississippi's commu– nity colleges. The lecture on Octo– ber 14 will be taped for inclusion in the East Central Community Col– lege archives housed on campus in the Burton Library.

Council and East Central Commu– nity College have joined handc;, to celebrate October 1994 a~ "Art"' and Huma nities Month" with a program on October 14, 1994 The program, which will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Fmc Art" Build– ing, will be a part of the 199~ Home– coming activities and will be pre– sented to students, faculty and the general public. Another a<.pect of the program is to celebrate the teaching of Arts and Humanities at East Central since the founding of the college in 1928 and a)<;O to rec– ognize the contribution<; to the Divi– sion of Communication< and Fine Arts made by Ovid Vicker<. during his forty-year tenure at Eac;t Central. Following an mtrod uction by Dr. Eddie M. Smith, Pre.,ident of the college, Vickers will "peak on Souther n Folklore, a topic he has been involved in researching, writ– ing about, and speaking on ' lnCC he g raduated from college.
