Dr. Tucker, who plans to retire on June 30, has served in his present position for 30 years. For many years he has been regarded as the "Dean of Deans.. among Mississippi's colleges and universities for not only his longevi– ty of service but his expertise in the academic field. Dr. Tucker, a charter member and senior member of the Mississippi Community/Junior College Deans' Association, has played a key role in improving educational standards between community/junior colleges and senior universities. When it was decided that all ofMississippi's two– year institutions would institute a common course numbering system, Dr. Tucker chaired the work for the continuing implementation of this system for 10 years. While serving as East Central's dean of instruction, Dr. Tucker has proved himself to be a disciplined and productive individual. Because be grew up in the Great Depression and was reared on a fann in Leake County, he learned very early in life the value of organization, planning, hard work and education.

he graduated from Edinburg High School as its valedictorian and from East Central with honor. He also held back.elor's and masters' degrees from Misssissippi State University. After his appointment to the dean position, Dr. Tucker began to better prepare himself to be able to effec– tively execute his duties by entering post graduate programs at the Uni– versity of Texas and the University of Southern Mississippi. He entered the doctoral program at MSU and was awarded the Doctor of Educa– tion Degree in School Administration. Realizing that one must keep abreast of changes in college admt– nistration and curriculum, Dr. Tuck~ er attended leadership programs in communityf.junior college organlza~ tion and administration sponsored by the Kellogg Foundation at the Uni– versity of Texad, Florida State Uni– versity and the UmversityofFlorida. He also participated in junior col– lege leadership seminars in Dallas, TX; and Denver, CO. Because EC's Dean oflnstruction is also responsible for the Vocational-Technical Division of the College, Dr. Tucker toured the community colleges in the industrial cities in Michigan to study modem technical programs in that state. Also while in vocational-technical education, Dr. Tucker attended American Vocational Association meetings as a state delegate and served as an officer in the State Voc– ational Association. During his teaching career, be also trained two award-winning national vocational teams.
