Phi Theta Kappa Initiates These East Central Community College students from Newton County are among those recent– ly tapped for membership by Theta Xi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, a national scholastic organization for community and junior college students. Membership in the honor society is by invitation only. To be eligible, freshmen must have at least a 3.4 grade point average and sophomores are required to maintain at least a 3 .3 GPA. According to sponsors, Or. Shelby Harris and Mrs. Ann Burkes, the purpose of Phi Theta Kappa is " to promote scholarship, develop character and cultivate fellowship among academically superior students." ·Those chosen include, from left , Allen Boutwell, Newton ; Tara Swindle, Decatur; Gaye Rose, Hickory; Tracy Weaver and Darlene Crane, both of Decatur; and Sonya Lewis, Little Rock.
