Area well-represented in JuCo all-star game
mopolis, Ala., had 100 tackles, 62 solo. He led ECCC in tackles as a freshman with 96. Anthony Walker- the 6-foot-2, 220-pound fullback from Demopolis rushed for 663 yards and three touchdowns. Lamont Byrd- the 6-foot-2, 190-pound quarterback/punter from Carrollton, Ga., completed 78-of-210 passes for .1,091 yards and three touchdowns. He rushed for 409 yards and led the Warriors in scoring with 36 points. Byrd also averaged 39.8 yards punting wllh a long kick of 63 yards. As a freshman, Byrd completed 34-of-96 passes for 513 yards and five touchdowns and ran for 422 yards and five touchdowns. Felton Burroughs -the 6-foot, 185-pound defensive back from Thomasville, Ala., had four inter– ceptions. He had three as a fresh– man to lead ECCC both year!:.. • Representing EMCC are: Eric Washington- the 5-foot-11, 220-pound linebacker from Columbus was named co– defensive MVP for the North Di– vision All-State team with 104 total tackles. Seventeen area junior college players will take part in the annual MJCA All-Star football game all p.m. Saturday at Keenum Stadium in Booneville. Seven are from East Missis– sippi, six are from East Central, and four are from Jones. ECCC and JCJC are on the South team, while EMCC will represent the North. ECCC's Sammie Holifield ex– pressed a little off-field concern for the four-day event. "I hope the earthquake doesn't get me." That would be a unique way to slow the 5-foot-10, 187-pound running back from Lake down. Little else has. As a sophomore, Holifield rushed for 872 yards and five touchdowns. As a freshman, he rushed for 354 yards and three touchdowns.
