First-half rally lifts ECCC ladies to win Scrappy EMCC hangs in close

ECCC went on an eight-point run with two driv– ing layups from Nash highlighting the run and took a 38-25 lead into intermission. EMCC got back to within45-40 with 16:0 I remaining on a layup by Jackson State transfer Renita Jackson. ECCC's Shontel Lowe and Shea Oakley scored four poims each to pad the lead to 52-40 with 15 minutes to play. Hanging onto 10-12 point leads over the next 10 minutes, ECCC put the game away with a basket each from Oakley, Beverly Ware, and Marcella Torrence to take its biggest lead at 80-63 at the three– minute mark. Nash led ECCC's scoring with 20 points, while Oakley had.l6, Lowe 12, Carol BoaLman mne, Ware eight, and Hendon and Tor– rence seven each. DECATUR - East Central's LadyWarriors are picked to baule Coptah-Lincoln for the MJCA South Division title, while East Mississi ppi's Lady Lions arc tabbed to battle Del ta for th e North Division cellar. Amismatch in Monday night's season opener? Not hardly. East Central took an 83-71 win with a late first-half rally sparking the win. "I'm pretty well pleased for a first game," ECCC coach Sammy Pace said. "I can be happy with 83 points. We ' ve got to pl~y bet.ter than this though. We can t be ftrst in the South (Division) playing like that. We' re nowhere near where we need to be, but I believe we will get there." "I thought it was a typical fi rst ballgame for both teams," EMCC coach Dale Peay said. "We're a young ballclub right now. I think before the year is over, we'll be a fair ballclub.
