ECCC names honor recipients Outstanding instructor, student will attend luncheon

coach Denver Brackeen. The facility is called the Brackeen– Wood Physical Education Building. In 1986, Miss Wood became the first woman to be inducted into the ECCC Athletic Hall of Fame. She has also been chosen ECCC's Alumnus of theYear and the Mississippi Association of Coaches' Coach of the Year. In 1979, she was selected to coach in the first women's junior college All-Star game and served again in that capacity in 1981 and 1985. She is listed in Who's Who in The South, Who's Who among American Women and Who's Who in American Education. sketches of each. Miss Wood, a native of Louisville, has been an instructor of health, physical education and recreation at ECCC since 1956. She teaches health, first aid, in– troduction to physical education, recreational leadership, tennis and fitness and conditioning. For many years, she served as women's basketball coach at ECCC and worked for and was in– strumental in organizing inter– collegiate women's athletics in both the junior and senior institu– tions in Mississippi. As a coach, she guided her teams to four state championships and three division titles. In recognition of her contribu– tion to women's athletics, ECCC in 1987 named the physical education building in her honor and that of fellow athlete and Kappa , nation~l honorary scholastic fraterruty for students in two-year colleges, and the Stu– dent Education Association, organized to &ive tl:le student practical expenence m teacher– teacher a nd teacher-student relations. DECATUR - Lucille Wood and sophomore Joyce Payne Luke of Decatur were recently named this year's Outstanding Faculty Member and Student, respectively, at East Central Community College (ECCC). Chosen by a special college committee, the two will join other scholars from across the state a t a luncheon hosted by the Mississippi Legislature on Feb. 13, 1990. At the special observance, outstanding faculty members and s tudents from every Mississippi public and private college and university will be recognized. At ECCC, she has maintained a perfect 4.0 grade-point average and was r ecently chosen for in– clusion in Who's Who among Students in American Junior Col– leges. Besides the distinction of being a President's Scholar, she holds membership in Phi Theta

degree and enter the teaching profession as a librarian and teacher of English. Married and the mother of three, she attends Decatur United Methodist Church, and has served as soloist with the chancel choir. Mrs. Luke was voted the outstanding student award by the college faculty.
