East Central Junior College adds two nam~ to their coaching staff

East Central Junior College an– nounces the addition of two coaches to the staff. Mr. J.C. Arban has assumed the position of assistant football coach and Mr. Sammy Pace will be in charge of girls basketball. Coach Arban comes to ECJC from Pearl River College where he served as head football coach. Originally from Athens, AL, Arban moved to Mississip– pi in 1954 to play freshman football with the University of Southern. His 26 year coaching career began as assistant coach to P.W. Underwood at Rocky Creek High School where their team sustained only 4 losses in 3 years. This was follow– ed b): an assistant coaching position at East Tallahachie High Scho,ol where Ar– ban advanced to head coach after the first year. Several assistant coaching positions followed beginning in 1964 with George County High Scho~. followed by Pearl River College, and die University of Southern Mississippi. He then returned to Pearl River as head football coach in 1975. When asked what his thoughts were on being a part of East Central Junior College, Coach Arban replied, "I'm glad to be here. I'm looking forward to working with the school officials and

Coach Kilpatrick who I've known a long time." At present, Coach Arban would not comment on what kind of season he expected from the ECJC Warriors this year, as he has not yet met with the players. He did, however, state that his philosophy was, "Being as good as we can be - of course, we want to win, but the players can learn alot just from par– ticipating in sports." Mr. Sammy Pace has served as chief administrator . of Sebastopol High School for 6 years. Before that, he was assistant administrator for 4 years. He has had 7 Y2 years of coaching experience at Scott Central and Hickory. He main– tained an impressive 7711/o win record for girls basketball during that time. Some honors attributed to the teams while under his guidance include 3 county championships, 2 Cherokee Conference Championships, 3 District VI Cham– pionships, 2 South Mississippi Cham– pionships, Runner-up in state playoffs and State Champions in 1979. Coach Pace views this opportunity at ECJC as an exciting step in his career. He stated that.it was great to be back in– to coaching and that he looked forward to working at East Central Junior College.
