ECJC _is I 'our' college 1 Financial assistance in many forms is available to students f who are interested in attending East c.ent~al. Junior .college. [ The cost of obtaining a college education is increasing each t year and students should explore the avenues open to them. l The college participates in two types of work-study- l Federal Work Study and College Work-Study. Student jobs l are awarded based on need and academic ability. ! The Federal Insured Loan is available through the par- I ticipating banks. The student may borrow money from the I bank and the Federal Government may pay the interest 1 while the student is in schoo~ depending on the student's parents' income. · . The Pell Grant Program is a Federal program designed to provide financial assistance/ to students based on family resources. The student may apply for the grant with any institution in the state. A~ditional information and ap– plications can be obtainel by contacting the Dean of Students. [ Scholarships are ava'llable not only to athletes, cheerleaders, and bands i:Jtembers but also to students who excel academically. All Athletic Scholarships are awarded by the respective coa~ and my be one-fourth, o~e-half, three-fourths or full scholarships. The Band Scholarships are awarded by the band &ector to full-time students. These scholarships mar be one-half tutition, full tuition,- or full · tuition plus ,Jllff>m., Cheerleader scholarships are awarded to eight st~nts selected by a committee and are one-half tuititioo. . . . . Acwfemic scholarships are awarded to any Mississippi r,aicfent student that enrolls full-time at East Central the fall ~ester following graduation with an ACT score of 23 or above. This scholarship is a full tutition scholarship and the recipient will be eligible for four semesters of scholarship provided a B grade average is maintain~ each s.emester. This scholarship is ava~able to academic, technical, and vocational students. The Valedictorian or Salutatorian scholarship will be available to the valedictorian of each high school in the district. If the valedictorian chooses not to attend l\.ast Central Junior College the fall semester following graduation, then it will be available for the salutatorian to' do so. The fees scholarship will be available to this student for four semesters provided a B grade average is maintained each semester. To be eligible for any scholarship a student must meet entrance requirements and remain in good standing.

East Central Junior College has been serving the five– county district of Leake, Neshoba, Newton, Scott, and Winston Counties for over fifty years. Since its beginning in 1928, the College has had five presidents and is currently served by Dr. Charles V. Wrights who became president in 1966. East Central, through state funds and tax support from the district, continues to strive to provide quality education for : I the students. Winston Counmty can be justly proud of its ' place in the. historical development of .East Central Junior I College. It has supplied faculty, financial support and \ students; it has supplied leadership-leadership from I dedicated supervisors and other county officials, from I trustees, from alumni, from business men and women and . I from industrial leaders. Presently serving as the Chairman 1 of the Board of Trustees is Henry Hudspeth has represented j District One of Winston County are Mrs. R.E. Clark, Walter I C. Fulton, B.G. Hull and Thomas Saterfield, all of Louisville I and Leo Parker of Noxapater. \ The College has grown immensely over the past few years 1 . with much of the growth and progress occurring since 1966. East Central has experienced a marked increase in enrollment and has the largest day enrollment ever. Of the l more 990 students enrolled during the 82-83 school year, i approximately 120 are Winston countians. f Thirty-two programs of study are offered including [ vocational education, a one-year intensive business [ curriculum, and technical programs. A new System-34 IBM [ Computer has been added. The computer has given the i College an opportunity to 4'Xpand its curriculum and for the I first time to offer computer science courses to business, ~ science, and engineering majors in addition: to the regular 1 data processing majors. Evening classes are being offered to instruct local area adults in the use of modern computing technology. Studies are presently being conducted to determine the need for a Licensed Practical Nursing Program and a Diesel Mechanics Program. These two areas of study may be of– fered in the near future along with Electronic Technology. East Central Junior College continues to be a growing part of the five-county district. As more and more people reali;e the benefits derived from a college education, East Central promises to play an even more vital role in the future. ,
