Like Vaughn's field goal tied the ballgame 7-7. In an emotional game until the final second, East Central Junior College and Mississippi Delta Delta scored early in the third quarter. With an off sides penalty called on ECJC, the ball was placed on the 1 yard line with goal to go. The Warriors held the line on the first attempt, but Delta's Chuck Smith went over the line of defense to put the Trojans on the scoreboard. The field goal was added by Rodney Fulgham to make Junior College tied 13-13.
