Girls win, boys lose pair to Co-Lin and Southwest
with 32 points, Sethia Townsend with 17, Beverly Bowie with 16 and Regina Amos added 12. Southwest Trojans got an early lead on the warriors but they fought back to tie the score 17-17 with 17:44 left in the first half. Points were evenly scored, although East Central held a 35-29 halftime lead. The Trojans began to come back with 3:M to go in the game. EC foul- ed and Trojan Ron Spunar sank 2 free throws t o close the gap 60-59. Southwest went on top with a 2 point play from Tracy Neely. EC put a full court press into effect but Southwest Bear Andrew Jackson drew a foul and sank the free throw t o add another point to the effort making it 62-60. With :40 showing on the clock, EC's Ronnie Bender intercepted a pass and held control of the ball for the shot to tie the game. With :23 left, Southwest's Neely made a grave error as he fouled Bender under the goal. Bender sank both shots to tie the score 62-62. Mississippi Delta and East Centra fought for the dominant lead during the first half of the game played at Decatur. Neither got ahead by morc than 3 points until Southwest pullec ahead by 5 with :25 seconds to go in the half, holding the score to 61-56. With 13:31 left in the game, EC pulled ahead 68-66, but Delta offensc fought a hard game and was so01 back in the lead. It was a tigh ballgame for the next few minutes with alternate scoring taking place. Southwest Ladies were first on the coreboard but it was a short lived lated feeling as the Lady Warriors ulled ahead 10-6 with 14:16 left in the irst half. Southwest managed to tie 1e score up a couple of times, but ever to lunge ahead in points. War- ~orettes led 35-31 at halftime. With :ss than 6:00 in the game, the two a began to swap even scoring, but -10 avail for Southwest. Two iinutes later, the Lady Warriors pull- i out in front by 10, not to be touch- i by the Lady Bears as they pulled ut the 79-64 win. High scorers for East Central were Regina Amos with 23, Beverly Bowie with 17, Karen Miller added 13, and Sethia Townsend tossed in 10. Eileen Martin had 17 for Southwest's effort, East Central Ladies cakewalked the MississippiDelta Lady Trojans as they pulled into a 28-18 lead with 8:29 left in the first half. The Warriorettes showed no mercy as they lunged ahead 46-37 at halftime. The Lady Trojans tired out and could not keep pace with the Warriorettes on the warpath to a 90-72 win.
