Turnovers hurt ECJC By Marty Stamper -- The Meridian Star

The Lady Warriors of East ~ e n t r a l Junior College defeated I Southwest Junior College 66-54 in I Saturday night basketball action 1 while the Warriors were crushed by the powerful Southwest Bears. 1 85-58. Karen Miller led the Lady ' Warriors with 23 points followed by Anita Union with 14 and Sethia Townsend with 13. Also scoring for ECJC were Regina Amos with 6, Beverly Bowie with 4, and Tracy Donald, Barbara Jones, and Ruby Carter added 2 each to the effort. Leading the way for Southwest was i Stacy Guy with 16 points. E a s t , Central led by 6 at halftime, 31-25. The Warriors had an extremely cold night from the floor which was ~ compounded by the aggressive play of the Bears. Southwest enjoyed a I tremendous height advantage and 1 used that advantage well as they continually took the ball inside to score. James Allen led the Bears 16 points while Andrew 1 :::son had 15 and Cedriclc Davis added 14. DECATUR - Turnovers once again led to the downfall of the East Central Lady Warriors as they were defeated by Gulf Coast 72-62 in South Division action here Tuesday night. The Lady Warriors committed* 20 turnovers in the contest. Four- teen of them came in the first half as the visitors pulled out to a 36-26 halftime lead. The Lady Bulldogs also used their height advantage to get off many second and third shots throughout the contest. The visitors took a 8-6 lead with 15:30 remaining in the first half on a 12-footjump shot by Patricia Troullier. The Lady 'Dogs did not relinquish their lead for the re- mainder of the game. Gulf Coast grabbed its biggest lead of the night, 49-43, on an 18-footjumper by Gennifer Mims with 13minutes remaining. After a layup by the Lady War- riors' Mellisa Jimmerson, Faye hlcDonald converted a three- point play to pull ECJC to within 51-45.
