Three from Union included.... 19 Newton Countians get ECscholarships

Academic Scholarships have been awarded to nine– teen students in •the East Central Junior College district. The scholarships are awarded to all students graduating from high school with composite scores of 25 or higher. This is a tuition .scbolarship awarded for each semester the student main– ,tains a 3.00 grade point average for a total of four semesters. Scholarships may be applied .to academic, vocational or technical degrees. Students . from Newton County · receiving scholar– .ships are Gary Micheal Moore· and Terri Lynne Russ~l of Decatur High School; Anne Marie Nelson of Newton High School; Loma Joan Alawine, Jan Nelle Richardson and Steven Freeman Thomas of Union Jligh School; and Robert Franklin Smith of Beulah Hubbard High School. Gary Moore is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvyn W. Moore of Decablr. While at D.H.S. Gary was a member of the DECA Qub and Beta Qub and played football. ' Terri Russell is the daugh· ter of Mr. and Mrs. N.A. 'Russell of Decatur. While at D.H.S. Terri was a member of the Beta Qub, FBLA, annual staff and paper staff. She served as President of her senior class and junior class and Secretary of the Student Council. She was ,selected as a Star Student.

Anne Marie Nelson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James L. Nelson Jr. of Newton. While at N.H.S. Anne was a member of the Beta Club, FBLA, NHS Band, Student Council and annual staff. She received honors including Chemistry and Biology Awards, Gold Cup in piano, Valedictorian of her class. She was selected by her classmates as a beauty in her junior year and senior year and voted as Most Intellectual. Joan Alawine is the daugh– ter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Alawine of Union. While at U.H.S. Joan was a member of FHA Club, Drama Qub, Beta Qub, "U" Club, and was on the annual staff. She served as head cheerleader during her senior year at Union High School. Joan reigned as Most Beautiful and was selected as Most Talented and Best Dressed, was a member of the Rifle and Flag Corps in the UHS Band. Jan Nelle Richardson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles M. Richardson of Union. While at U.H.S. Jan was a member of the Beta Club, Drama Club and Sportsmen Club. She as President of her senior class and secretary of the Band Council. Steven Freeman Thomas is the son of Mrs. K* Thoma~ of Union. While •t U.H.S. Steve was a member of the B a Club, "U" Club,

Drama Club, and was on the annual staff. He participated in football, basketball and baseball and was selected as Best School Spirit in his senior year. Steve participat– ed in high school productions of "Goodbye My Fancy" and ••Annie Get Your Gun.'' Robert Franklin Smith is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Thomas Smith of Rt. 4 Union. While at B.H.H.S. Robert was a member of the football team, baseball team and the Beta Qub. ----0···· Fall registration dates for ECJC are given

with curriculum advisors for class scheduling. All regular classes will begin on Thursday, August 28 and a late registratjon fee of SlO begins for · students other than those scheduled to register at this time. Registration for the 1980 fall session at ECJC will remain open for two weeks. Anyone interested in attending East Central may contact the Dean of Admissions and Records, Dean of Students, or Aca– demic Dean at East Central during week days from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at 635-2126 for further informa- tion. ·

Registration for the fall semester at East Central Junior College will get underway on Monday, August 25, 1980. Dormitories will be open at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 24 so that ~tudents may begin moving m. The' schedule for Monday will be as follows: 1:00 p.m. General Assembly for ALL students in Huff Auditorium. 1:30 p.m. Orientation for ALL freshman and transfer students who are attending ECJC for the first time. This includes students who attended ECJC for the first time this summer. Sopho· mores will meet at this time
