Baucum is a graduate of · Newton High School and atten– ded East Central Jr. College. He received his bachelor's degree from Louisiana College and received his Master of Education degi:ee in School Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi. He has done further graduate work at Mississippi College and Mississippi State University. He holds membership in the American Association of School Administrators, the Mississippi Association of School Administrators, and the Mississippi Association of instruction,

The Newton County School Board has announced the appoin– tment of Billy Baucum as Newton County Superintendent of Education to replace N. F. Smith who resigned June 30 to accept a position as Assistant State Superintendent of Education. Baucum has served as Assistant Superintendent of Education and Federal Programs Coordinator for the county . schools for the past twelve years. Prior to this he taught and coached at East Central Jr. College, Hickory High School, and Columbia High School. Other than the one year spent at Columbia, all nineteen years of his teaching and administrative experience have been in Newton County.
