Jessie Mae Everett, of Decatur. Mrs. Everett is a Business Instructor at East Central Junior College. She spoke on everyones need to participate in civic activities as much as possible. Mrs. Everett stated "people owe it to society, to youth, and to themselves" to be active in supporting local and state affairs. Mrs. Everett, herself a very active woman in civic affairs, brought Mrs. Jeanette Thrash, of Decatur, as her special guest and as an example of a civic minded person. The Club members voted to sponsor David Feldman as the Jaycees Outstanding Young Man of Newton. At the close of the evening, the hostesses, Mrs. Lavonne Hardee and Miss Gene Williams, served refreshments. The Clubs next meeting will be February 6, at the Newton County Bank at 7 p.m. This will be a business meeting and final plans will be made for International Week and the Candle Lighting Service.

On Jan. 16, at the Newton County Bank, the Newton Business and Professional Women held a meeting dealing with Civic Participation. Mrs. Lavonne Hardee, President, presided and Miss Elizabeth Rogers lead the Collect. Mrs. Letha Wilson was chairman for the evening and called upon each member to tell of a single civic participation they had done recently. Mrs. Wilson then introduced the guest speaker, Mrs.
