EC Warriors Romp Over Delta, 27-0 By WILL PRICE
Culpepper once again and the sophonlorewas true as he split the uprights wlth a 35-yard field goal that put EC out front 20-0. Once again Decatur got the ball and was forced to punt but recovered the punt fumble at the Delta's 4. From here it only took Ricky Dilly one play to score and Culpepper came in and added his ninth point of the game for the final scoring of the night. The Warriors' defense has to be given a lot of praise as late in the final period they stopped the Trojans three times inside the ten-yard line, once at the 1, once at the 4 and once at the 9 after they had gotten to the 4 on this drive. The Warriors of East Central now stand at two wins and three losses while Delta is now three wins and one loss. Decatur picked up 14 first downs to five for Delta and hit on four for 18 passing to three out of 12 for the Trojans. East Central had two intercepted while they were picking off one. Mississippi Delta led in the penalty department with 90 yards being stepped off against them to 40 for East Central. East Central now travels to Rooneville on Oct. 7 to meet Northeast Junior College.
BECATUR - What had to be the biggest ~pset so far this year in the junior college ranks happened here Thursday night at Warrior Field when East Central defeated Mississippi Delta 27-0. The Warriors scored all the points they needed early in the first period by capping a &yard drivewith a 25yard field goal by Don Culpepper. Decatur increased its lead by halftime with a touchdown by quarterback David Shumake who kept the ball and went 12 yards down the right sideline all alone and Culpepper added the PAT that made it 10-0 at half time. The Warriors also had a field goal attempt to fall short in the first period and two passes intercepted in the second quarter to stop the threat of East Central adding more points by the end of the first half. Decatur came right back in the third period after intercepting a Trojan pass and in nine plays Guy Nowell went 15 yards for a TD and Culpepper once again was good on the extra point try and the Warriors led 17-0.
