Class Favorites Chosen At ECJC

Elections were held recently at East Central Junior College for class favorites and Mr. and Miss ECJC. C:hosen as Miss ECJC was Carla Halley. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Johnson of Morton. Carla has received many honors at ECJC including serving as Freshman Maid and again this year as Sophmore Maid. Carla is a second year member · of the Varsity Basketball team. She was named to the All-State team. 1977-78 and receiv– ed Honorable Mention for her out~tahding performance. Carla is a member of the First Baptist Church of Morton. Barry Upton. son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe H. Upton of Walnut Grove was selected as Mr. ECJC. He is a second year member of the Varsity Basketball team and a member ·of the ECJC Players . Barry is a member of the First Baptist Church of Carthage. His future plans are to attend the University of Southern Mississippi and m,ajor in Social Wot~. ·Chosen as Sophmore favorites were : Angela Hardy, Karen Hurst. Brenda Munn, Todd Gregory. Mike Lee. and Phil Shepard. Angela is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.J. Hardy of Philadelphia. she is a member of the Collegians, ECJC Play1rrs, Concert Choir. Flag Corps .in the Marching Band. and the Fashion Squad . she was chosen as a "1977-78 campus beauty and selected ' as the 1978-79 Homecoming Queen. Karen is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Hurst of Hickory. Karen served on the Ladies Dorm Council. 1977-78, and the Varsity Baskerball team. 1977-78. She participates in Intramural Flag Football. Basket- bat!, and Co-ed Volleyball. Karen is a member of the Sands Springs Baptist Church.

Brenda is the daughter of Mr. and -Mrs. J.H.Munn of Philadelphia . She is very active at ECJC serving as cheerleader, Treasurer of the Student Body Association, and the ECJC Players. She was a Freshman Class Officer, 1977-78. Brenda is a second year member of the Varsity Tennis team and participates in Intramural Softball, Basketball. and Flag Football. She is on the ECJC Advisory Council to Congressman G.V."Sonny" Montgomery. Todd is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John V. Gregory of Carthage. He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and played varsity football, 1977-78. In addition to being chosen as sophmore favorite he was also a freshman favorite. He is a member of the First Baptist Church of Carthage . Mike is the son of Mr. and Mrs . Leonard H. Lee of Decatur. He has played varsity Football both his freshman and sophmore year at ECJC. Mike is a member of the Clark Venable Baptist Church of Decatur. Phil is the son of Mr. and Mrs . Joe Shepard of Carthage. Phil is the President of the Sophmore class and a second year member of the Varsity Basketball team and Tennis team . He is a member of the Madden Baptist Church. Chosen as freshman favorites were: Debbie Easterling. Leisa Richardson, Tammy Taylor. Thomas Barnes, John Harrison . . and Jody Tidwell. Debbie is the daughter of Mrs. Syble Easterling of Lena. She is ~ majoring in Physical Education .and participates in Intramural Basketball and Co-ed Volleyball. She is a member of the Goodhope Baptist " Church of Lena. ·j Leisa is the daughter of Mr.' and Mrs. Ray Richardson of Union.

Leisa is a member of the EC.JC Players . Fashion Squad, and House Chairman of Jackson Hall. She particpat e s in Intramural Flag Football and Basketball. She was selected as a 1978-79 Freshman Maid on the Homecoming Court and is a member of the First United Methodist Church of Union . Tammy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Taylor of Morton. She is a member of the Collegians, Varsity Tennis team and is on the ECJC Advisory Council to Congress– man G.V . "Sonny" Montgomery. Tammy particpates in Intramural Basketball, Softball, Flag Football, and Co-ed Volleyball . She is a member of the Morton United Methodist Church. Thomas is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Holdiness of Noxapater. Thomas is a Vocational-Techinal student majoring in Air Condition– ing and Refrigeration. He partici– pates .in Intramural Football. Volleyball, and Basketball. He is a member of th e Noxapater Baptist Church. John is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alton Harrison of Forest. He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and Sigma Sigma Mu Tau. John serves as Freshman Class President and is on the EC.JC Advisory Council to Congressman G.V. "Sonny" Mont– gomery. i-le participates in Intramu– ral Basketball, Men's Volleyball, and Co-ed Volleyball. He is a member of the Homewood United Methodist Church of Forest. Jody is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe F. Tidwell of Philadelphia. Jody is a member of the ECJC Players. Varsity Tennis Team, and is on the TOM TOM staff. He participates in Intramural Football, Volleyball, Basketball. and coaches a Women's Intramural Basketball team. Jody is a member of the First United Methodist Church of Philadelphia.
