Tony Smith awarded scholarship to Ole Miss

Tony Carleton Smith of Union has been awarded the Luther and Claire Wade Scholarship at the University of Mississippi. Son of Mr. and Mrs . James C. Smith, he plans to major in journalism at Ole Miss. Smith previously atten– ded East Central Junior College, where he was editor of the school news– paper, Phi Theta Kappa reporter, a President's List Scholar and listed in Who's Who Among Stu– dents in Junior Colleges. The Luther and Claire Wade Scholarship was established in 1975 by Mr. and Mrs. Wade, of Greenwood, who pointed to the necessity -of an education in today's com– petitive world. Former president of tne Delta Council , Wade explained, "I see so many young persons around who don 't have an opportunity to get a col– .lege education. I would like for them ·to have it

because competition is keen now and is getting keener.·· The scholarship is automatically renewable ·on a semester-to-semes– ter basis for eight con– secutive semesters or until undergraduate gra– duation , provided the recipient maintains a 2.5 grade-point average his first two semesters and a 2.8 average thereafter .
