G.2 ADULT EDUCATION (AE) TRANSITION SPECIALIST/IETP COORDINATOR

General Statement of the Function : The Adult Education (AE) Transition Specialist/IETP Coordinator is a grant funded position that reports directly to the Director of Adult Education/High School Equivalency (AE/HSE). The AE Transition Specialist/IETP Coordinator will also work with adult education students at or near completion to assist with the transition to post-secondary education and/or the workforce. The Transition Specialist/IETP Coordinator will provide guidance and assistance for students in Adult Education Program to facilitate the achievement of career and academic goals. The Transition Specialist/IETP Coordinator will also recruit, coordinate and collaborate with local agencies, (DHS, One Stop, Armed Forces, and the business community) to guide and counsel students for appropriate placement upon completion of the Adult Education Program. The Transition Specialist/IETP Coordinator will be responsible for creating IETP’s for the Adult Education Program. 1. Maintain payroll records and submit pay request forms for AE/HSE personnel monthly; 2. Work to help AE students and HSE candidates at or near program completion transition to their next steps – be that college or career; 3. Attain at least twenty (20) hours of staff/professional development through activities provided by the Mississippi Community College Board, East Central Community College, and other state agencies and organizations. Online options are also available through the Literacy Information and Communication System (LINCS) website and will be approved by the director on a case by case basis. Staff development hours will be recorded in the LACES database; and 4. Utilize a case management approach to link local services and resources to adult education students in conjunction with other local community agencies (education, social, and/or local) for the purpose of establishing a comprehensive referral system; 5. Coordinate with local One-Stop intensive services and employment opportunities for the purpose of matching students with full time or part time employment; 6. Contact recruiters (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and National Guard) to establish informational sessions for potential adult education students; 7. Work to help AE students and HSE candidates at or near program completion transition to their next steps—be that college or career; 8. Maintain a student database to include demographics, attendance and student placement; 9. Work in tandem with the adult education facilitators and staff to motivate students to achieve their goals; 10. Maintain complete accurate records/reports of the program, and prepares such reports as required by the MCCB; 11. Assist in creating basic skills lessons for an IETP; 12. Assist CTE/Workforce instructors with creating basic skills lessons for IETP; 13. Organize student assessment and orientation sessions; 14. Use formal and informal assessment data to monitor and document students’ progress; 15. Assist and manage the navigators in recruitment; 16. Develop a system for placement of students in internship or apprenticeships opportunities; 17. Participate in the retention and follow up of students; and 18. Perform other duties as assigned.
