F.3 CAMPUS POLICE DISPATCHER

General Statement of the Function : The Campus Police Dispatcher reports directly to the Campus Police Chief. The Campus Police Dispatcher will ensure the safety of the campus community by administratively supporting the police officers and administrators who maintain law and order on campus and enforcing the rules and regulations of the college and the Laws of the State of Mississippi. The Campus Police Dispatcher will document campus incidents, communicate campus emergencies, and be responsible for reporting any safety hazards found on campus.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Ensure the safety of college faculty, staff, students, and visitors by answering radio traffic and the telephone for the entire campus; 2. Answer telephone calls from faculty, staff, and students; 3. Maintain effective communication and confidentiality with officers regarding the use of the computer for “searching” for students’ information; 4. Report maintenance needs to the Superintendent of the Physical Plant on work order forms in a timely manner; 5. Provide assistance with traffic control and parking for special events and/or assistance via telephone and radio from Police Officers, Security Staff and members of the college community and the general public; 6. Record, maintain, and protect college data, material, or information in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act; 7. Assist with establishing and maintaining liaisons with local, county, state, and federal agencies, and public officials; 8. Assist the Campus Police Chief with maintaining the calendar of events on campus and assuring that events that need security/officers are covered in an efficient manner; 9. Assist with the development of computer applications for the Campus Police Department; 10. Perform general office duties as assigned by the Police Chief, such as filing, photocopying, typing, etc.; 11. Utilize the computer for daily retrieval of student information relative to Campus Police Department; 12. Process equipment maintenance, purchase orders, and travel requests for the police department; 13. Maintain a weekly calendar and organize weekly facility arrangements for opening and closing of buildings used by the community; 14. Maintain a campus log of incidents, accidents, and emergencies that occur on campus; and 15. Perform other duties as assigned.
