D.48 DIRECTOR OF NETWORK SYSTEMS

General Statement of the Function : The Director of Network Systems will administer the College’s local and wide area networks including network appliances, servers, and enterprise software; and supervise the Network Systems Technical Specialists in supporting the College’s LAN, WAN, wireless network, security camera network, instructional technology, and desktop software for the main campus and other locations in the five county district; and assist the Dean of Information Technology in developing short-range and long-range technology plans for the College. The Director of Network Systems will report to the Dean of Information Technology.

Duties and Responsibilities :

1. Administer the local area network (LAN) infrastructure including but not limited to network appliances, routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless controllers and wireless access points; 2. Administer the College’s link with the state’s wide area network (WAN) MissiON including access to the internet; 3. Administer the College servers and enterprise resources such as domain directory services, domain name system, email, and other file systems; 4. Administer the College network appliance, system and data backup procedures; 5. Supervise the Network Systems Technical Specialists in support of the LAN, system/data backups, personal computers, laptops, technology equipment, instructional software, and desktop software 6. Research and implement IT security measures to harden network and server infrastructure against internal and external threats; 7. Assist the Dean of Information Technology in the development of short-range and long-range network technology plans; 8. Assist the Dean of Information Technology in maintaining inventory records of technology equipment 9. Provide ongoing planning for enhanced utilization of technology in network, instruction and support areas; 10. Provide network systems instruction and training for the administration, faculty, and staff; 11. Provide documentation for Network Systems procedures and LAN/WAN infrastructure; 12. Lift and install technology equipment weighing up to 40 pounds as needed; 13. Work from a ladder as needed; 14. Install cable in attics and crawl spaces as needed; and 15. Perform other duties as assigned.
