D.24 DIRECTOR OF THE SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CENTER

General Statement of the Function : The Director of the Small Business Development Center will direct, manage, and market a business and educational services program for small businesses in the East Central Community College District. The Director will provide one-on-one counseling and educational programs to the district’s client base of small business owners. The Director will report to the Vice President for Instruction.

Duties and Responsibilities :

1. Directs the activities of the Small Business Development Center at East Central Community College; 2. Develops goals and objectives for East Central’s Small Business Development Center in conformity to Mississippi’s Small Business Development Center and the U. S. Small Business Administration guidelines; 3. Plans and coordinates small business training activities in the East Central Community College District; 4. Plans, develops, and manages the budget for the Small Business Development Center; 5. Provides direct management counseling to small business clients; 6. Establishes and maintains linkages with the small business community in the East Central Community College district; 7. Establishes and maintains linkages with federal, state, and local agencies involved in economic development and/or small business assistance; 8. Prepares quarterly and annual reports required by the state SBDC administrative office and SBA; 9. Responds to requests and directives of the State Director of Mississippi’s Small Business Development Center Office; 10. Provides individual instruction and educational support to entrepreneurs and business owners; 11. Analyzes situations, makes recommendations, and educates clients with regard to business plans, market feasibility, financial viability, operations management, and legal structures, as well as other MSBDC topics; 12. Maintains an appropriate level and mix of clients as noted by annual goals and strategic plan objectives; 13. Develops and delivers high-quality business training programs that are responsive to the needs of the business community served, provide value to the host institution, and yield impactful results; 14. Develops and deploys action plans and marketing plans that align with the organizational strategic plan for the center, tailor to meeting the specific small business needs within the assigned geography, and capitalize on the skills of center personnel; 15. Disseminates pertinent information to the business community and host via various media outlets to promote services and highlight work of the center; 16. Determines workshop topics, agendas, instructors, instructional materials, location, time, and other resources required; 17. Generates curricula for business programs, seminars, conferences, etc. for local business interests; 18. Maintains a broad base of business knowledge; 19. Develops specific and relevant areas of expertise for business development that contribute the overall program and align with the network strategic plan; 20. Directs clients to external sources of business information and assistance, as needed; 21. Serves as an advocate of business development, expansion, retention and referrals in the service area as a visible leader in the local business community and with local stakeholders; 22. Ensures that organizational goals and objectives for the center are accomplished in a timely and thorough manner;
