D.11 BASIC SKILLS SPECIALIST

General Statement of the Function : The Basic Skills Specialist will work with businesses and industries in the East Central Community College five-county district to establish adult basic education (ABE) and general education development (GED®) programs. Specific duties will involve assessing the need for ABE/GED® programs; locating classrooms, instructors, and materials; and providing other activities to support the effective operation of the basic skills programs. The Basic Skills Specialist reports to the Dean of Workforce Education and Development and coordinates activities with the Director of ABE/GED®. 1. Coordinate basic skills (ABE/GED ® ) classes for specific businesses and industries; 2. Recruit students for adult education classes; 3. Arrange for adequate classroom space for ABE/GED ® classes; 4. Plan and conduct staff development training for basic skills instructors; 5. Administer the General Education Development (GED) Test; 6. Deliver books and materials to off-campus sites for basic skills (ABE/GED ® ) classes; 7. Assess the need for adult education classes in various locations throughout the district; 8. Develop and coordinate evaluation procedures for the basic skills (ABE/GED ® ) program; 9. Assist in the recruitment and selection of basic skills instructors; 10. Collect, review, prepare, and submit forms and reports relative to adult education to the proper agencies; 11. Function effectively as a member of the Workforce Development Center staff; 12. Assist the Director of ABE/GED ® with the annual GED ® graduation; and 13. Perform other related duties as requested and assigned. Duties and Responsibilities :
