D.9 DIRECTOR OF EXTERNAL RELATIONS

General Statement of the Function : The Director of External Relations reports directly to the Vice President for Public Information and provides assistance in all aspects of the College’s overall communications and marketing strategy, including visual identity, media/public relations, social media, student publications, and website content, as well as overseas the efforts of the ECCC Alumni Association.

Duties and Responsibilities :

1. Prepares and disseminates news releases to newspapers and radio and TV stations, and where applicable, to other news media; 2. Posts news releases to the College’s website and to social media; 3. Works with district and local area media in scheduling interviews and on-air appearances by College faculty, staff and students; 4. Directs the efforts of the college’s Alumni Association, including coordination of planning and evaluation functions; communications initiatives to secure membership dues; alumni dues gift records and acknowledgments; mailouts, marketing, and other communications to alumni; alumni social media accounts; Homecoming and other special alumni events; meetings, membership, and officers of the Alumni Association Board; nomination and balloting procedures for the annual selection of the Excellence in Teaching & Learning and Excellence with Class awards, Alumna of the Year, Alumnus of the Year, and inductees into the Athletic Hall of Fame; along with other initiatives to grow the Alumni Association; 5. Assists in the writing and design of brochures, pamphlets, advertisements, and other printed materials for the College, and for divisions and departments; 6. Assists with college marketing, advertising, and social media campaigns and similar initiatives; 7. Assists the Vice President for Public Information with crisis and emergency communications, including implementation of Warrior Alert; 8. Serves as managing editor for the College’s The Warrior alumni magazine; 9. Ensures consistent and accurate use of the College’s visual identity by various offices and departments, and external constituents and vendors; 10. Assists with creating and maintaining content on the College’s website; 11. Attends and takes photos of various College events and activities including those that are held in the evenings and on weekends; 12. Edits photography using PhotoShop; 13. Assists in taking and editing videos for use on the college website, social media, television advertising, and other media; 14. Provides assistance with college live stream productions as needed; 15. Provides photography and writing assistance for the production of the College newspaper, The

Tom-Tom and the College yearbook, The WO-HE-LO; 16. Chairs the College’s Beauty Pageant Committee; and 17. Performs other duties as assigned.
