D.6 ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF FINANCIAL AID (Loans)

General Statement of the Function : The Assistant Director of Financial Aid (Loans) reports directly to the Director of Financial Aid. This Assistant is responsible for various duties in the financial aid office and specifically with the student loan program.

Duties and Responsibilities :

1. Perform general duties as they relate to the Financial Aid Office. 2. Answer all questions concerning Financial Aid and advise students as to the programs available to them and the application process for these programs. 3. Assist students with filing their applications and with any corrections that may be necessary. 4. Assist in maintaining a file on each student applying for financial aid. These records are to be kept for a number of years as set by the Department of Education regulations. 5. Perform computer applications as required in the daily financial aid office functions. 6. Review student files and award financial aid following all regulations and procedures. 7. Prepare and distribute loan information and required loan forms. 8. Determine students’ eligibility for loans and award loans. 9. Conduct entrance and exit loan counseling and keep proper records documenting the students’ completion of the required process. 10. Monitor the loan guarantees and receipt of funds. Perform any necessary student eligibility reviews of loan applicants and recipients as required. 11. Follow federal guideline concerning awarding loans/aid, monitoring electronic (or check) funds and disbursing loans. Make necessary adjustments to individual student loans and return funds or cancel loans within the required timeframes. 12. Coordinate the disbursement of loans with the Business Office. Reconcile loan records and disbursement rosters between Financial Aid and Business Office. 13. Prepare required financial aid reports. 14. Assist students who transfer to other colleges by advising them of the proper transfer procedures; 15. Attend workshops and training sessions; and 16. Perform other duties as assigned.
