DIRECTOR/INSTRUCTOR FOR SURGICAL TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM General Statement of the Function : Have general responsibility for the operation of the program. Work with clinical providers in securing clinical agreements and arranging clinical activities for students. Teach Surgical Technology, both lecture and laboratory, to post-secondary students. All teaching faculty are to teach classes as assigned, follow the established policies and procedures of the College, and support, encourage, and participate in appropriate organizations and activities. The Surgical Technology Instructor reports to the Dean of Healthcare Education. Duties and Responsibilities : 1. Have general responsibilities for the operation of the program. 2. Conduct themselves and their family affairs so as to always bring credit to the College and to the community. 3. Serve as advisor for students assigned to them as a part of the guidance program. 4. Provide faculty representation on college committees as described in the Policies and Procedures Manual as assigned. 5. Participate in college or state level academic/instructional committees as assigned. 6. Participate in professional organizations and other activities that upgrade and contribute to professional growth. 7. Support and encourage the College sponsored extracurricular activities. 8. Support and participate in the community affairs that contribute to the total well-being of the College, the community, and the individual teacher. 9. Counsel any student who seeks or needs assistance. 10. Assist in maintaining standards of conduct and discipline for the student as set forth by the institution. 11. Follow established policies and procedures of the institution to enhance instruction, facilitate administration, and to bring about student well-being. 12. Teach effectively all students so that each student will have an opportunity to achieve the objectives of each course and the goals of the College at large in order to become a more complete, useful, and productive citizen. 13. Keep accurate records of student progress and student class attendance and prepare appropriate reports as needed. 14. Responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and reviewing the programs of the College to ensure continuous improvement. 15. Submit budget requests during the budget revision process. 16. Submit purchase orders for materials, supplies, and equipment as needed. 17. Maintain appropriate office hours as required by College policy. 18. Attend all scheduled faculty meetings and division/departmental meetings. 19. Assist with student orientation and registration on the scheduled dates during the summer months. 20. Assist in the recruiting and placement of students. 21. Be responsible for initiating and organizing craft committee meetings. 22. Be responsible for program equipment maintenance and equipment transfer and disposal. 23. Work with clinical agencies providers in securing clinical agreements and arranging clinical activities for students. 24. Work with College personnel and appropriate agencies, state and national, in securing and maintaining accreditation. 25. Perform other duties as assigned by appropriate administrative personnel. 26. Must satisfy a criminal history background check pursuant to section 43-11-13, Mississippi Code of 1972, with no disqualifying factors. (Added 8/14/07; Revised 12-16-08; Revised 4/13/10; 8/22/17)
