DIVISION CHAIRPERSONS

General Statement of the Function : Divisional chairpersons in all instructional divisions report directly to the Vice President for Instruction. The chairperson heads the division as its spokesman and is advisor to the members of the teaching faculty under his or her supervision. Division chairpersons coordinate all course offerings and business procedures for the particular division. Chairpersons are chosen on the basis of seniority, academic ability, and leadership.

Duties and Responsibilities :

1. Schedules and conducts division meetings; 2. Works with faculty on accreditation matters, class schedule planning, curriculum development, curriculum review, budget planning, textbook changes, syllabi revision, and catalog changes; 3. Requests maintenance service for his division; 4. Implements directives from the Vice President for Instruction; 5. Participates with the Vice President for Instruction in the recruitment, selection, and retention of faculty members in his/her division; 6. Provides leadership and promotes harmony and unity within his/her division; 7. Teaches classes according to school policy; 8. Performs additional duties unique to his/her division; 9. Supervises divisional inventory; 10. Supervises adjunct instructors; 11. Keeps pertinent divisional records such as purchase order requests, grade distribution reports, instructional objectives, etc., 12. Reviews student and colleague evaluation of each division member and conducts personal evaluation of each division member; 13. Works with the Vice President for Student Services in the recruitment of new students; 14. Prepares catalog materials pertaining to his division and submits them to the Vice President for Instruction; 15. Prepares divisional budgets and submits them to the Vice President for Instruction; and 16. Assumes responsibility for care and inventory of divisional equipment and materials.
