B.14 DEAN OF STUDENTS

General Statement of Function : The Dean of Students reports directly to the Vice President for Student Services. He/She is responsible for the administration and supervision of the Campus Police Force, Student Housing, Student Activities, Intramural Sports, and the overall climate of the student population on campus.

Duties and Responsibilities :

1. Recommend and manage the annual budget in the areas of Public Safety, Housing, Student Activities, Intramural Sports, and Activity Center; 2. Assist with all campus elections; 3. Coordinate through the Director of the Eddie M. Smith Student Union, the activities in the Student Lounge and the Activity/Fitness Center; 4. Coordinate, through Campus Police Chief, the security needs of the College including security at all athletic and other campus events; ensure the safety of all students, faculty, staff, and visitors; 5. Supervise the student discipline procedures of the College in conjunction with other student services personnel and serve as an ex-officio member of the discipline committee; 6. Serve as Administrator in Charge of all home football and basketball games in coordination with the Dean of Athletics; 7. Coordinate ambulance and public safety coverage of all home football games; 8. Coordinate, through the Police Chief, all National Incident Management System (NIMS) certifications; 9. Coordinate, through the Police Chief and the Superintendent of the Physical Plant, all safety related issues on campus, such as fire alarms and extinguishers; 10. Coordinate, through the Police Chief and Director of Housing and Student Activities, all fire and weather drills; 11. Ensure all Public Safety and Housing personnel develop a high level of visibility for students, staff, and visitors; 12. Conduct yearly evaluations of all Public Safety personnel and make recommendations on their reemployment; 13. Coordinate, through the Campus Police Force and Housing Personnel, the enforcement of all campus rules and regulations in a fair manner; 14. Coordinate, through the Police Chief and Director of Housing and Student Activities, Residence Hall meetings at the beginning of each semester and on an as-needed basis; 15. Conduct student-athlete meetings with each varsity sports team at the beginning of each fall semester on an as-needed basis; 16. Ensure that the constitutional rights of all students are upheld at all times; 17. Assist with summer orientations; 18. Assist with recruiting as needed; 19. Other duties as assigned.
