DEAN OF LEARNING RESOURCES

General Statement of the Function : The Dean of Learning Resources provides leadership for the Mamie Ethel Burton Memorial Library and coordinates services for faculty, students, and the community. The Dean of Learning Resources is responsible for acquisitions, cataloging, processing and circulation of library materials. The Dean of Learning Resources reports directly to the Vice President for Instruction.

Duties and Responsibilities :

1. Supervises the library and Success Center staff; 2. Establishes and implements governing procedures for the library;

3. Develops services and resources necessary to meet the needs of faculty, students and community; 4. Conducts annual data-based evaluations to determine the effectiveness of the Library and the areas that require improvement; 5. Recommends an annual budget which reflects the needs of the College; 6. Encourages faculty participation in the selection of new materials and use of the Library in serving students; 7. Implements innovative ideas for the use of modern technology to increase library efficiency and service; 8. Advises the Vice President for Instruction as to library standards and needed budgetary expenditures to enable the library to meet these standards; 9. Ensures the effective functioning of the College’s Library Committee; 10. Chairs the Learning Resources Committee; 11. Teaches students the appropriate use of the Library both formally and informally; and 12. Performs other duties as assigned by the President or Vice President for Instruction.
