B.6 DEAN OF HEALTHCARE EDUCATION

General Statement of the Function : The Dean of Healthcare Education is responsible for the administration, management, organization, and supervision of all College health-related programs including the Associate Degree and Practical Nursing Programs, Basic Emergency Technology Course, and Surgical Technology Program. The Dean of Healthcare Education collaborates with the Director of Workforce Development on other health-related certifications. The Dean of Healthcare Education reports directly to the Vice President for Instruction. 1. Serves as administrator of the Associate Degree Nursing program; 2. Serves as administrator of the Practical Nursing program and works collaboratively with the director and faculty; 3. Serves as administrator of the Surgical Technology program and works collaboratively with the director and faculty; 4. Serves as administrator of the Basic Emergency Technology program and works collaboratively with faculty and the Medical Director; 5. Participates in graduation ceremonies for all healthcare departments; 6. Maintains current American Heart Association® Basic Life Support certification, unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Mississippi, required immunizations, and tuberculosis testing; 7. Completes and implements an annual professional development plan, which includes ten (10) contact hours of continuing education each academic year; 8. Satisfies a criminal history background check pursuant to section 43-11-13, Mississippi Code of 1972, with no disqualifying factors; 9. Encourages and promotes the highest quality of instruction within the nursing divisions in keeping with the Institutional Commitments of the College, nursing philosophy, and accrediting agency standards; 10. Supports and upholds the College mission, vision, core values, and all policies; 11. Provides an adequate number of qualified faculty to teach in the division; 12. Conducts monthly division meetings with faculty members during most months; 13. Oversees program operations and makes modifications as deemed necessary; 14. Coordinates and supports data collection with the Director of Career & Technical Education for required federal and state reporting; 15. Serves as the budget manager for the Division of Healthcare Education to include preparation, implementation, evaluation, and accountability for division expenditures; 16. Provides leadership and guidance to faculty in seeking quality improvement for assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation of healthcare curricula and course syllabi; 17. Facilitates faculty and staff development, recruitment, performance review, promotion, and retention within the division; 18. Encourages and supports continuing education of faculty and staff; 19. Evaluates faculty and staff performance and submits recommendations to the Vice President for Instruction and the Director of Human Resources; 20. Approves textbook and resource adoptions; 21. Prepares and approves recommendations for class offerings and schedules for each semester; 22. Develops recommendations on creating and canceling classes, opening and closing classes, and making other adjustments in class and operational schedules; 23. Develops recommendations for faculty assignments and loads for each semester; 24. Approves requests for faculty and staff leave; 25. Submits adjunct faculty contracts and pay records as needed; Duties and Responsibilities :
