Policy Title: POLICIES AND PROCEDURES FOR NAMING CAMPUS BUILDINGS AND FACILITIES The naming of a campus building, facility, and/or part of a campus building or facility shall be considered one of the highest awards possible from the College. The intention of bestowing such an honor will be to place in the public eye truly deserving persons or entities who/which will be permanently associated with East Central Community College (ECCC). The process of selection for this honor shall be exempt from the pressures of families, politics, and friendships.

GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR NAMING CAMPUS BUILDINGS AND FACILITIES

Any individual or entity that has made significant and/or long-standing contributions to ECCC is eligible for consideration. Individuals may include, but is not limited to, former faculty, staff, or administrators; alumni; former members of the Board of Trustees; or private citizens.

Each county in the service area of ECCC will be honored by having a building named for it.

A part of a campus building or a facility may be named for an individual or an entity (eg., field within a stadium, conference room; laboratory, etc.). In so much as possible, the name selected for a campus building or facility or part of a campus building or facility shall be in keeping with the function of the building or facility and shall reflect a careful match between the person(s) for whom the building or facility is to be named and the purpose and function of the building or facility. Since the Board of Trustees of the College bears the supervisory responsibility of the President of the College, the officers of the Board can, at their discretion, recommend that a building or facility be named in honor of a president either during his/her term as President or after his/her term as President. The naming of a facility after a sitting or former president is exempt from the process of submitting documentation for nomination ( see below ). The elected officers of the Board of Trustees shall present a recommendation for the naming of a building after a president of the College to the full Board of Trustees for approval. The recommendation must be approved by majority vote of the Board of Trustees meeting in regular session through a process of secret ballot. Any individual or entity who have prior felony conviction(s) are ineligible for nomination. In addition, entities should be free of serious legal or civil penalties to be considered for this honor. In the event that a person for whom a building, facility, or part of a building or facility is named commits a felony or conducts himself or herself in such a manner that is detrimental to the integrity of the College, the Board of Trustees may, at its discretion, permanently remove that person’s name from the building, facility, or part of a building or facility. Likewise, in the event that an entity for whom a building, facility, or part of a building or facility is named commits a felony or conducts itself in such a manner that is detrimental to the integrity of the College, the Board of Trustees may, at its discretion, permanently remove that entity’s name from the building, facility, or part of a building or facility. Ceremonies and/or special events to announce the naming of a campus building, facility, or part of a campus building or facility shall be under the direction of the President of the College.
