Policy Title: GENERAL POLICIES OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES

A. The chief functions of the Board of Trustees shall be the establishment of broad institutional policies, securing and monitoring financial resources to adequately support the institutional vision, mission and institutional commitments, and selecting and evaluating the President who shall be the chief executive officer. B. All business transacted and decisions made by the Board of Trustees shall be matters of public record. C. At any official meeting of the Board of Trustees, the majority action of the Board on a given issue becomes the policy of the entire Board until such time the question is again raised at a Board meeting for further consideration and changed by a majority vote. D. It is expected that members of the Board of Trustees as public officials are independent and impartial; that decisions and policy are made through the proper channels of the College; that public office is not used for private gain other than the remuneration provided by law; that there is public confidence in the integrity of Board of Trustees; and that public officials are assisted in determinations of conflicts of interest. Therefore, the members of the Board of Trustees are subject to the ethics laws of the State of Mississippi and will adhere to the requirements of Mississippi Code Annotated 25-4-1 to 119 as it pertains to conflicts of interest. E. It is the duty of the President of the college to recommend full-time faculty and to make nominations for their appointment, and it is the responsibility of the Board of Trustees to either accept or reject the President’s nominations. F. Selection, employment, and termination of administrative staff, professional staff, administrative support staff, and institutional support staff personnel shall be the responsibility of the President. G. Individual members of the Board of Trustees will not consider applications made for positions at the College made to them as individuals, but will refer such applications to the President of the College. H. The President of the college shall be responsible for discipline of all students, faculty, and staff members and the Board shall not consider individual complaints or recommendations except those presented to the Board by due process of appealing the action of the President. I. At any official meeting of the Board of Trustees, issues where decisions cannot be immediately reached may be postponed by a majority vote of the Board or referred to a committee for consideration and recommendation.
