Policy Title: FACULTY DEVELOPMENT

Policy Statement

It should be the goal of each instructor at East Central Community College to become a better teacher. Various avenues of faculty development must be pursued if this continuing need for quality and relevance in instruction is to be met. Faculty are required to complete a minimum of 6 staff development workshops/programs during each calendar year. A Faculty Development Committee composed of five members of the faculty, representing different instructional areas, will be appointed each year by the Vice President for Instruction. This committee and the Vice President for Instruction encourage faculty input in planning workshops and programs relative to faculty development. Committee Goals In keeping with the above policy, the major goals and specific tasks of the Committee will be: 1. To maintain and improve the quality of classroom instruction through the development of professional workshops and/or seminars designed to explore meaningful and relevant topics of concern to the general faculty; 2. To facilitate communication among the faculty and between the faculty, the administration, and the students; 3. To encourage faculty utilization of opportunities for further study, travel to workshops and other educational opportunities. 1. To plan the preschool workshop annually (plan during the spring); 2. To plan a formal spring in-service training activity (plan during the fall) 3. To establish and maintain a Faculty Development Center (small Display cabinet, etc.) in the library for workshop information, pertinent articles, new library holdings re: teaching/learning, ETV information, any printed matter that could augment the teaching/learning process; 4. To develop, and keep updated an intra-campus resource listing of any/all materials equipment, expertise, etc., that could conceivably be used interchangeably between different instructors/areas of instruction on campus; 5. To pursue ways/means of establishing Faculty Development Scholarships for use by individual faculty members; 6. To accept other tasks as related to specific goals. Specific Tasks The specific tasks of the committee will be:
