Policy Title: APPOINTMENTS AND EMPLOYMENT PROCEDURES FOR NON-TEACHING PROFESSIONAL STAFF AND ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT STAFF These guidelines will be followed for the appointments and employment of all professional and administrative support staff with the exception of the position of Assistant Coaches, who shall be selected and appointed at the discretion of the President. Applications submitted by individuals seeking a full-time non-teaching professional staff position or administrative support staff position are maintained in the office of the Director of Human Resources. When a position vacancy occurs, the appropriate supervisor completes the Position Opening Approval Form and submits the form to the appropriate Vice President for approval to fill the position. Once the request to fill the position has been approved by the President, the supervisor then determines the requirements for the position and submits a draft Position Opening Announcement (POA) for approval by the appropriate Vice President and the Director of Human Resources. Upon approval of the POA, Director of Human Resources will initiate the process to post the appropriate (cross reference Policy 706, Promotions and Transfers). The Director of Human Resources will receive applications and prepare files for the Screening and Interview Committee. The Screening and Interview Committee will consist of five administrators, faculty, and/or staff members recommended by the appropriate supervisor and approved by the President. The supervisor of the position being filled will serve as the Chairperson of the Screening and Interview Committee unless otherwise approved by thePresident. a. The Screening and Interview Committee will review all of the applications received from the office of Human Resources and determine the applicant(s) selected for an interview. b. The Screening and Interview Committee will record minutes of the screening process in accordance with the “Steps to Hire Checklist” maintained in the office of the Director of Human Resources. c. The Screening and Interview Committee will conduct reference checks on the applicant(s) selected for an interview. d. The Chairperson will prepare a list of interview questions to be used in the interview process after discussion with members of the Screening and Interview Committee. e. The Screening and Interview Committee will conduct the interviews. f. Each applicant selected for an interview will be introduced to the appropriate Vice President and the President, as they are available. g. The Screening and Interview Committee will complete the “Grid for Interview Questions” for each applicant interviewed and the “Individual Committee Member’s RankingSheet.” h. The Chairperson will complete the “Final Rankings Sheet” and obtain signatures from all committee members. i. The Chairperson will complete the “Candidate’s Strengths/Weaknesses Grid” based on each committee member’s evaluation on the “Grid for Interview Questions.” 2. The Screening and Interview Committee Chairperson will draft a preliminary recommendation for two candidates, listed in order of preference, to the appropriate Vice President. a. The recommendation will be signed by the Chairperson of the Screening andInterview Committee. b. The signed recommendation, along with the credentials of all applicants, is will be forwarded to the appropriate Vice President. c. The appropriate Vice President will review the credentials of all applicants. d. The appropriate Vice President has the option of scheduling additional interviews of the two recommended candidates as needed. 1. Initial Screening and Interview Committee Procedures
